Introducing Charlotte – Production Coordinator!

What does your job entail here at Standby?

My job role is Production Coordinator, here at Standby Productions. This is working alongside Ellen, the lovely Producer, to help research, plan and implement each project for every client that STBY works with. Anything from shoot logistics to casting, locations to lunches, shoot documents and client relations… and anything in between!

In-house, I also help keep the office managed with the things we all need to keep working to our best. Sourcing sustainable office products where we are able and ensuring that things are set up for welcoming our amazing clients to our office!

I also like to create small events for the guys here, like our recent Pancake Day celebrations (!) and going forward, the Standby Team Social events for our incredible new team here at Standby Productions.

What do you do outside of work?

I live in a small Welsh town in North Wales, so I love spending my time outside and I am spoiled by nature literally on my doorstep!

During the spring/Summer months I will be jumping back on my paddle board and travelling the canals attempting to spot the Mandarins and Herons that (occasionally) hang out canalside.

Aside from that, I absolutely adore cooking and have really explored vegan recipes in the last few years, due to my daughter having many allergies. This has really pushed my cooking skills, making me think ‘outside the box’ and has made me rethink certain items I would usually assume to choose – it’s made me ask myself, is there a better alternative here?

Not to sound cliche, but before I became a mum, I was ridiculously crafty and arty and this is something I hope to delve into more as my small one gets older!

What are you looking forward to in the next few years here at Standby?

Growth!

Both personal development and that of our returning clients.

Our team right now is full of such incredible talent and creativity, that I am so excited to see where it takes us.

Getting to produce projects is definitely something I cannot wait to get into! Seeing the direction that evolving roles and responsibilities takes us as a team, as we grow and add additional members over the years – which will only enhance the process here at Standby. It’s exciting times!!

What’s your favourite part of the job?

So, would it be lame to say “who doesn’t love a spreadsheet??!!” (I know someone in the office who would shout no from the rooftops…)

But honestly, I love the change each new project brings and each new client! Seeing all the elements come together into these final few moments of creativity. The excitement they (clients) have on their faces when they experience the ‘magic’ of filming, or being on set, that doesn’t grow old.

When you were young, what career did you see yourself doing?

When I was younger, I was obsessed with Aardman and any and all claymation. I would always create small rooms in shoeboxes and create silly dioramas of anything and everything. This started by me spending hours just drawing what I saw, the rooms I was in and trying to understand perspective.

Over the years, this grew a love for set design and model making and always saw myself going in this direction (which I did!).

But, there was always the backyard dream of being a helicopter pilot… there’s still time, right?!

What made you want to work for Standby?

I started on a one off job for Standby as a runner – during Covid just before Christmas, just filling some available dates in my diary as I was working freelance.

The week after, I found myself on location with them for 4 days as a production assistant.

I knew there and then I wanted to keep working alongside them as much as I could. Never had I worked with a production company who boycotted the ‘old school’ production stigmas and were so knowledgeable, creative and just damn nice people! I had worked for many different companies as a freelancer and Standby was just a breath of fresh air and most importantly, always did an incredible job and had a great time along the way. Why would I want to work with anyone else?

How are you finding the team?

The team is brilliant. We are finding our rhythm and we have discovered we all offer something different personally and professionally so we meld together really well.

It’s exciting times here at Standby and I am stoked to see where 2024 takes us.

And finally, who is your favourite?

Pfft, is there really any question? Here’s a hint, they are always cold. If you know, you know.
